Susceptibility of different Malvaceae crops to herbivory induced by adult Podagrica spp.

چکیده

Podagrica uniforma Jacoby and P. sjostedti are two important flea beetles that cause economic damage to several Malvaceae crops in Africa. Host preference by the was evaluated under field conditions 2017 2018 using fourty different family Malvaceae. The setup a randomized complete block design with three blocks. Both highly preferred okra genotypes, but cotton genotypes were not damaged both years. More than 80% of crop leaves had beetle-induced buckshot(s) except for (0%) jute mallow (<55%). Leaf tissue removal exceeded 40% total leaf area kenaf. Damages induced disrupted plants’ fitness, caused high abscission many stands lost Only fruits beetles, plots Dwarf LP variety recorded highest loss (>43%) NHAe47-4, LD-88, first most susceptible spp. attacks, while ranked as least crops. In conclusion, exhibited broad oligophagy polyculture While okra, kenaf, roselle, showed varying degrees susceptibility beetles’ appeared be outside host range. potential utilizing this beetle-Malvaceae interaction information agroecosystems minimize infestation losses discussed.

Induced epidermal permeability modulates resistance and susceptibility of wheat seedlings to herbivory by Hessian fly larvae

Salivary secretions of neonate Hessian fly larvae initiate a two-way exchange of molecules with their wheat host. Changes in properties of the leaf surface allow larval effectors to enter the plant where they trigger plant processes leading to resistance and delivery of defence molecules, or susceptibility and delivery of nutrients. To increase understanding of the host plant's response, the ti...

Susceptibility of Anopheles Fluviatilis James to different insecticides in

Introduction: An estimated population of 40% of Hormozgan province, southern Iran, live mainly in mountainous areas in close contact with Anopheles Fluviatilis. This specie has highly exophilic and anthropophilic behaviors and is one of major malaria vectors in the mountainous areas of Hormozgan province. This study was conducted to assess the irritability and susceptibility level of An. Fluv...

Pathogen-triggered ethylene signaling mediates systemic-induced susceptibility to herbivory in Arabidopsis.

Multicellular eukaryotic organisms are attacked by numerous parasites from diverse phyla, often simultaneously or sequentially. An outstanding question in these interactions is how hosts integrate signals induced by the attack of different parasites. We used a model system comprised of the plant host Arabidopsis thaliana, the hemibiotrophic bacterial phytopathogen Pseudomonas syringae, and herb...

Chemotaxis and chemical defenses in seaweed susceptibility to herbivory.

Recent studies have show that small marine herbivores with limited mobility (mesograzers) often feed on macroalgae chemically defended against fishes or sea-urchins. In order to verify the involved mechanisms of chemotaxis or chemical defense into this process in Brazilian littoral, two species of brown alga Dictyota menstrualis and Dictyota mertensii were studied against the limited mobility h...
